My Black Lab Kona-Bear was born in Haleiwa which is on the North Shore 🙂 I do believe I have seen Hank in the water at some of the more private beaches!!

Was at North shore during the month of March. Gorgeous beaches.. saw people throwing dogs in the water. Gasp ! I have 3 Labs and live in Ohio so my dogs prefer snow. Cute dog in the picture. Wish my dogs like water :((

Denise, yes, it sounds like you know where we like to take him. His first time at the ocean, he was a bit unsure and I just let him be. My neighbor’s son fell into the water off of one of those reef shelves and Hank jumped in and swam out to him. And he has loved swimming ever since.

Lab are amazing dogs SueAnn!! Back on the mainland, we had a yellow lab as well as three Golden Retrievers. The Goldens are also a great companion and very smart dog 🙂 I’ll have to keep my eyes open for you next time I’m out with Kona-Bear!

My (almost 2 year old) yellow Mojo loves to swim as well. He hits the lakes and the Atlantic Ocean here in Nova Scotia. Not only is he a family member, he’s my hunting buddy as well, so it was important to me to get him swimming early on. At 5 months (when the water warmed up enough) I simply used his instinct to protect to get him in the water. I simply walked in up to my chest and let him howell and bark while gently calling him. He refused. I then carried him in and while supporting him, held him in the water letting him paddle with his feet. I then put him back on shore and walked out to my chest again. I called him and he instantly swam out to me and tried to drag me to shore! He’s hardly been dry since!

I acquired Sam the Lab when he was 12 months old (he was wayyyy too nutty for his first family, so we LUCKED out with the best dog ever!!). I know the names of the breeder(s) and their location, but that’s all. 🙂

Knudsen looked just like Hank at his age. He loves the water. His humans have been to the North Shore and marvelled at the parachute sailing. …and also love Makawai (2006). We brought home Knudsen at 3 months. He’s still with us at 21 months. I can imagine a less patient and dedicated owner might have given up. So when you say Hank came to you at a year, it makes me smile a bit. Lovely photos and beautiful location. The photo taken from under the water is lots of fun!

Zen, my “almost 9” Yellow English Lab L I V E S for her favorite beach, Cardiff state beach in San Diego Country… she often wants to swim out to the paddle boarders! She will swim in a mud puddle if I let her… i wouldnt know what to DO with a dog that hated water… she and I are kindred spirits… thanks for putting so much love and effort into your page. I adore everything you post!
